ALL OVER NOW FOR LEGEND WORGAN

- By Matt Badcock

AFTER 246 consecutive appearances and two promotions, Maidstone United legend Lee Worgan is moving on.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has taken up a two-year player-coach role at National League rivals Dover Athletic.

Worgan joined the Stones from Tonbridge Angels in 2013 and played a big part in their rise up the ladder under boss Jay Saunders.

He will be forever remembered at the Gallagher Stadium for saving the winning spot-kick in the 2016 National League South play-off final at neighbours Ebbsfleet United.

But a long-term deal, combined with wife Laura being pregnant, means Worgan has chosen to look ahead to life after football with a coaching role on Andy Hessenthaler’s Dover staff.

Worgan tweeted: “Nothing and nobody is eternal, but we certainly gave it a good go didn’t we, Maidstone United?!

“To say I have had an amazing six years would do it an injustice. I’ve loved every second of being a Stone and I have made memories and friends that will last a lifetime.”

After thanking ex-boss Saunders, the club owners as well as current and former team-mates, Worgan added: “And finally to the supporters. You have been truly amazing to me from the start to finish! To those who haven’t stopped singing and drumming win, lose or draw, you are the real heartbeat of this club – you made my experience unforgettable.”
