HARVEY LEAVES IT VERY LATE

- By Chris Hughes

LUKE Harvey headed in an 89th-minute winner to give Faversham a 2-1 victory in a dramatic finish against Guernsey.

It was an open affair from the off as Paris Pereira fired just wide of the post for the visitors shortly after their keeper Callum Stanton had come out brilliantly to deny Faversham an opener.

The home side had the best of the play in the first half, but it was Guernsey who went closest eight minutes before the break when Will Fazakerley’s terrific effort struck the woodwork.

Fazakerley then had another chance just moments later but couldn’t keep his header down from a corner.

The second half started off even more ferociously than the first, with Faversham captain Harry Goodger scoring less than two minutes after the restart with a powerful header to break the deadlock.

But the visitors hit straight back in the 55th minute as left-back Thomas Dodds’ tidy finish levelled proceedings as the game opened up even more.

Stanton then made two brilliant, point-blank saves to keep Faversham at bay as the home side pressed to find their winner.

They had to wait until late, but they finally got their wish with a minute of normal time remaining as substitute Luke Harvey rose to head home the winner, sparking jubilant scenes in victory at the Shepherd Neame Stadium.

Horsham came from two goals down to win 3-2 in an epic comeback against Ashford United.

Ashford started brightly and scored two goals in four first-half minutes through Danny Parish and Sam Corne to give their side a comfortable lead at the break.

Chris Smith pulled a goal back for Horsham midway through the second half to set up an interesting final 25 minutes.

The tide then suddenly seemed to turn as the hosts became nervy. And the pressure paid off with ten minutes remaining as Tyrell Richardson-Brown scored to level things up and take what seemed to be an unlikely point for the travelling side.

But the drama wasn’t over and RichardsonBrown’s day was to get even better. He found the net for his second of the game in the sixth minute of added time to complete a quite remarkable comeback and condemn Ashford to seven games without a win.

Horsham climb to seventh in the table while Ashford continue their slide down the placings as they now sit in 14th and in danger of a potential relegation battle.

Goals either side of half-time extended

Whyteleafe’s impressive start to the season as they beat Whitstable Town 20.

Whyteleafe took the lead on the half-hour mark through Eddie Dsane and that was enough for them to head into the break a goal to the good.

In the second half, Bradley Wilson doubled the visitors’ lead in the 66th minute to secure the three points.

Whyteleafe have now lost just one from their first nine league matches and continue to pile more pressure on their promotion-chasing rivals above them.

Bennet Oliver scored a 91st-minute own goal to give Sevenoaks victory as Greenwich Borough slipped to their fifth successive league defeat.

In a match of very few chances, Sevenoaks snatched a dramatic late winner to win 1-0 and move up to tenth, while Greenwich look perilously poised for a relegation scrap down in 18th. East Grinstead’s match against

Thamesmead Town was called off due to the home side entering ‘voluntary administration’ on the 16th October, leading to the club folding.

Therefore, they have been unable to fulfil some of their previous fixtures, with this being the fourth fixture the club have not fulfilled this season.
