BARNEY’S UNITED SOARING

- By Toby Smith

TWO GOALS from Lee Barney helped Hayes & Yeading move top of the league, beat Ware 3-1.

Barney broke the deadlock turning home after Anthony Page had saved from Hassan Jalloh.

United grabbed their second midway through the second period courtesy of a mix up between Dom Njoya and Page as they left the ball for each other and Barney was able to nip and score.

Late on, Duncan Culley added a third turning home from close range before Alaa Oudji pulled one back in stoppage time for the hosts with a wonderfully struck free kick.

Oudji created a further late chance when he burst into the box and was brought down for a penalty, but Jordon Watson blasted wide.

Northwood started life without manager Dean Barker, who left the club, with a morale-boosting 3-0 win at Ashford Town.

Ben Pattie opened the scoring on nine minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the box after Ashford failed to clear a Matt Cooper free-kick.

Pattie increased the Woods’ lead on 15-minute mark as he converted a Kweku Lucan cross, and Woods put things to bed with a third goal through Sam Tring on the hour.

Ashford proceeded to create a number of opportunities, hitting the woodwork in the process, but were unable to find a way through a well-drilled Northwood backline, led by skipper Carl Pearce.

Three first-half goals were enough for Hanwell

Town to claim the points against South Park.

The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute when Gareth Chendlik converted from the penalty spot.

Hanwell made it 2-0 with just a quarter of an hour gone when Tom Collins latched on to a long ball over the top and scored spectacularly from the edge of the area.

Their third goal arrived in the 35th minute when Callum Duffy headed home a corner from the right.

Giani Ashley had a shot saved by Aaron Bufton and Luciano Osbourne fired over the bar for the hosts in response. Sebastion Osei-Obengo was denied by Bufton three times in the second period, and Charlie Alexiou headed wide.

Michael Eacott in the Park goal was on hand to keep out the Hanwell forwards in the second half, and the visitors played out the second period. Bedfont Sports grabbed an important three points to distance themselves from the relegation zone as they held on to beat Uxbridge 3-2 away from home.

Ogo Obi put the visitors ahead early in a chaotic first half but the Reds were level through Brian Testolin with 23 minutes played.

Sports once again had the lead when Abdeen Timetope Abdul grabbed his side’s second on the half-hour.

Bedfont looked to have wrapped things up when Scott Harris added a third with just 20 minutes to go, but for Matthew Woods to grab one back deep into injury-time.

There wasn’t time for Uxbridge to snatch an equaliser, however, as Bedfont held on for a valuable win.

Two goals from Graeme Purdy were enough for

Westfield to seal a 2-1 victory over FC Romania.

Purdy grabbed the opener in what was a dominant first 45 from Westfield when he was left alone in the box with plenty of time, finishing with aplomb.

Romania were limited to half chances in the opening period, coming closest when George Taban saw his strike ruled out for offside.

They mounted a spirited comeback after the break, however, but couldn’t force anything to show for their efforts.

And they were made to pay when Purdy grabbed his second against the run of play, again finishing calmly beyond Adrian Darabant.

With seven minutes remaining Chiduben Onokwai raised Romania’s hopes, pulling one back and injecting hope into the visiting side, but they couldn’t force a point.
