BIG BEN STRIKES TO DOWN THE REDS

COLNE 0 TRAFFORD 1

- By David Priestley

TRAFFORD came out on top in a game of two halves at the Sovereign Play Stadium Colne. The visitors were the stronger team in the first half and come close when Declan Rydings saw his header come back off the underside of the Colne crossbar after 13 minutes. And Trafford took the lead after 18 minutes when Ben Harrison headed home a corner kick from close range. Colne came back strongly in the second half but could not find a way through the Trafford defence. A triple substitution on the hour gave Colne more attacking options but an injury to Jonathan Hodgkinson on 67 minutes reduced them to ten men. And it was still Colne who looked more likely to add to the scoreline as they put Trafford under constant pressure in the closing stages with no reward as time ran out for the Reds. Trafford will be pleased to have kept a clean sheet especially with top scorer Alex Curran proving to be a menace throughout the game. The win sees Trafford move two points clear of Colne with 25 points and with two games in hand. Trafford are now three points off top of the table Runcorn Linnets but have a game in hand on the league leaders. Next up for Trafford is Widnes in the league before a trip to Newcastle Town, sandwiched between a cup game with Radcliffe. Colne, on the other hand, will hope to bounce back against Leek Town when they return to league action in a couple of week’s time. STAR MAN: Alex Curran (Colne) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
