RESURGENT REDS EASE PAST THE PURITANS

- By Ben Tyler

REDDITCH UNITED 2 BANBURY UNITED 0

REDDITCH United continued their resurgence under manager Paul Smith as they moved out of the relegation zone with a comfortable win against Banbury.

The visitors started the stronger with a couple of early half chances but it wasn’t until the 21st minute for the first clear chance.

Attacking Reds midfielder Robbie Bunn curled an excellent cross from the right which Shaquille Leachman Whittingham could only stab wide on the stretch.

Ahmed Ali went closer still for the home side when firing low past Emmanuel Agboola’s left-hand post moments before Nyeko Sinclair had a driving effort saved.

Bunn would make no mistake though when giving the Reds an early second-half lead, rifling his effort into the bottom-right corne.

Leachman-Whittingham proved a constant threat after switching to the left-flank, and he marked his excellent performance with a goal. His run matched Jamie Ashmore’s pinpoint cross from the right as he tucked the ball into the far corne.

And he was almost the sole creator of a goal of the season effort, collecting the ball deep in Banbury’s half, before weaving past a handful of players en route to the penalty area, but he could only lift the finish over the bar. STAR MAN: S Leachman Whittingham (Redditch) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
