The Non-League Football Paper

DRAGONS SLAYED BY IMPRESSIVE TERRA FIGHT

- By Nick Wilson

BASINGSTOKE and Weymouth went head to head in an excellent advert for Non-League football, with the visitors victorious despite the hosts creating the better chances.

Basingstoke showed their intent although Sam Argent couldn’t react in time to convert Ben Wright’s driven cross and was denied by the boot of goalkeeper Jordan Seabright eight minutes later as Wright sent him clean through.

He made amends midway through the first period though as Sam Smart produced an excellent piece of skill at the byline to beat Calvin Brooks before lobbing a cross into the six-yard box for Argent to force home with his right foot.

Dean Stow clipped a post for the hosts before Weymouth’s chief goal threat Brandon Goodship unleashed a strike from 25 yards that dipped past Colm McAdden just before half-time.

The second period went much the same, Wright’s free-kick saw a good Seabright save before he headed over from six yards out and Goodship did the same at the other end.

From a simple long ball though, Stoke were undone as Goodship latched onto a flick and cut back for Ben Thomson to sweep home.

Chances came for Basingstoke but Smart, Jack McKnight and new signing Mitch Parker all failed to net. STAR MAN: Sam Smart (Basing) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
