WALTER’S ON FIRE AS THE HAWKS ARE TAMED

- By Ian Barham

HARLOW TOWN 1 MERSTHAM 4

MERSTHAM were clinical in their win over Harlow Town, who finished the game with ten men.

The hosts slumped to the bottom of the table as a result, with their search for a home win continuing.

It couldn’t have been a better start for the hosts who went ahead inside the first minute.

A shot from the right hand side clattered off the post to Nathan Korateng who stroked home the rebound.

The lead was shortlived however, when Merstham hit back ten minutes later. A cross in from the right found Tayshan Hayden-Smith to turn it in.

Both sides enjoyed periods of possession, but the two goalkeepers were largely untroubled as neither side could fashion clear-cut chances.

Merstham started the second half well with an early goal. On the counter attack a shot was deflected to Walter Figueira who slotted the ball through the home goalkeeper’s legs.

The game was killed off in the 89th minute when Harlow were reduced to ten men. JJ Da Cruz received a second yellow card for a foul in the box, and Tom Kavanagh dispatched the penalty well with a low shot into the corner.

Merstham had time to add a fourth as Tom Bird went through on goal and chipped in. STAR MAN: Walter Figueira (Merstham) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
