FANS LEFT RAGING AT BULLS DIP

Richards calls for calm

- David Richardson runs through the stories which hit the headlines over the last seven days

HEREFORD set a most unwanted club record on Tuesday night. A crowd of 1,512 at Edgar Street became their lowest attendance for a league game since reforming in 2015.

Those that did turn out witnessed a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Southport, who leapfrogged the Bulls in the National League North relegation zone.

Supporters booed at times during the match and then vented their frustrations at full-time with the club now appealing for witnesses after an “altercation” between a few fans and players afterwards.

Penny for the thoughts of Peter Beadle, the man who guided Hereford to three consecutive titles and an FA Vase final at Wembley, only to sacked after just eight National North matches.

The board “unanimously agreed” to get rid of the former Newport County boss explaining it would be in the club’s best interests if they are to reach the Football League.

Beadle hasn’t previously won promotion from NonLeague’s top tier, but nor has his replacement Marc Richards. It was a shock decision that has only backfired so far. Beadle may have had a few rye smiles at recent results, but it will do nothing to ease the pain of seeing his hard work being slowly undone.

Pressure

Hereford had sat three points adrift of the play-offs when they axed Beadle but yesterday’s draw at Darling- ton became their 14th league fixture without victory, leaving them two points from safety. Of the last 42 points available, they have taken just five.

“It’s a results business and we’re not getting results at the minute so that's something we need to sort out,” Richards said after Tuesday’s defeat.

“We're going to continue working hard on what we need to do and the preparation for every single game. Hopefully we can turn this around because we need to.

“Pressure is part and parcel of being a manager and that's the same at any level. I've got no problem taking all the pressure because I want the players to play with freedom.

“I get it, I get the fans’ frustrations. All I’ll say is, stick with it because we know what we’re doing.

“I know the fans don’t feel like that at the minute but we will turn it around and when the good times do come, we can all enjoy them together.”
