FIVE-STAR CIREN ARE ON A ROLL
OLLIE Mehew scored a second-half equaliser but he could not stop Yate
Town dropping points in a 1-1 draw at home to Thatcham Town.
After Yate had an effort ruled out for offside, Shane Cooper-Clark broke the deadlock as he picked up the ball just inside the box at the other end and turned well before looping a deflected shot over the outstretched hand of Ross Grimshaw.
Mehew levelled on the hour, when a pinpoint pass into the goalmouth from Josh Ford set him up for a volley past Chris Rackley into the far corner.
Dave Sims-Burgess, Adam Price and Harry Warwick had chances to win it for Yate but they could not find a way through.
Elsewhere, Cirencester produced a brilliant display as they hammered
Bristol Manor Farm 5-0 despite a remarkable performance from visiting keeper Ben John.
He saved a penalty and a string of good chances, but Cirencester still ran out convincing winners.
They led 1-0 at the break with a goal from Jack Freeman, and early in the second-half Ben Whitehead doubled the advantage.
He turned provider for skipper Alan Griffin, before John saved Whitehead’s effort from the spot. However Ciren were far too strong with late strikes from Griffin and Whitehead to seal the win.
AFC Totton rounded off 2018 with a muchdeserved 3-1 win over Highworth Town.
The Stags opened the scoring through Craig Feeney, who headed home at the back post from Jack Masterton’s cross.
Highworth equalised on 58 minutes after a long punt downfield was seized upon by Ashleigh Edenborough.
The Highworth No 9 held off Jack Smith before lifting the ball over Max Harris.
Within three minutes the Stags were back in front following some superb work by Stuart Green who drove down the left before finding Feeney in the six-yard box and the Stags striker turned and shot inside the near post.
The Stags added a third
when Justin Bennett headed home from a Masterton corner after 73 minutes.
Moneyfields remain within striking distance of the top of the league thanks to a 3-1 victory away to bottom side Barnstaple.
Under new manager Aaron Harper Penman, Barnstaple could not turn things around, Steve Hutchings heading home unchallenged from a corner.
Barnstaple equalised when sub Stuart Cameron headed home but they were not level for long as Lloyd Rowlatt put the visitors ahead once more.
Sam Pearce then made the game safe with 15 minutes to go with a halfvolley that left keeper Steve Johns helpless.
Street remain within striking distance of the play-off places as they got the better of struggling
Fleet 3-1. Phil Ormrod scored twice in the second half, after Steve Murray had opened the scoring in the first to give Street a comfortable three points.
Paulton were undone by an early goal from Josh Hunt in a 1-0 defeat at home to Cinderford.
Left-back Lewis Binns ran 50 yards before laying off to Hunt, who scored despite keeper Rob Brown’s effort to stop the ball crossing the line.
After a couple of Rovers opportunities, Cinderford could have extended their lead when Richard Greaves headed against the crossbar before Brown did brilliantly to save his shot from the rebound.
In the end though, the early Hunt strike proved to be the only goal of the game as Cinderford claimed all three points. Finally Winchester
City proved far too strong for Mangotsfield as hattrick hero Tyrell Mitford enjoyed a brilliant day in a 4-0 win.
The striker opened the scoring from the spot in the first half, before adding a second shortly after the hour.
Mitford completing his treble ten minutes later before Liam Gilbert fired in a fourth.
