BISHOP Auckland upset leaders Dunston UTS on Tyneside, ending their 17-game unbeaten start in the league and knock them off top spot. The Two Blues hadn’t lost away in the league since September and although the first half ended goalless, the visitors had been reduced to ten men with Darren Richardson sent off. But Bishop Auckland were awarded a penalty with just under 20 minutes left, after Dan Capewell used a hand to block Shaun Ryder’s shot. Andrew Johnson converted from the spot and Bishop hung on for the win. A brace from Danny Craggs helped Consett end 2018 as league leaders, with a 4-0 victory over winless Penrith. Michael Mackay and Michael Sweet were also on the scoresheet for the Steelmen. West Auckland Town came from two down to draw 2-2 at home to Ryhope CW. Adam Cocks and Robbie Bird goals had put the away side in control but Amar Purewal pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go, before Ryhope had Jack Devlin sent off and Tom Portas equalised for West Auckland. North Shields beat lowly Whickham 4-1 with goals from Callum Johnston, Ryan Carr, Jordan Summerly and Cam Cunningham. John Martin scored for Whickham, who had Lee Paul Scroggins sent off at 2-1. A second-half hat-trick from Graeme Armstrong helped Hebburn Town win 5-2 away at Seaham Red Star and James Risborough scored a hat-trick as Stockton Town beat Ashington 3-1, Karl Ross the Colliers’ scorer. Goals from Dean Holmes and Paul Brayson helped Newcastle Benfield come from behind to beat Guisborough Town 2-1, as a Kurt Matthews brace helped Newton Aycliffe to a 2-2 draw at Whitley Bay.
