IZZY GETS BUSY TO AID CHIPS

- By Trevor Stotten

IZZY Bademosi’s secondhalf strike helped

Chipstead claim all three points with 1-0 victory against Marlow after a tenacious performance.

With challenges flying in, there was a danger of tempers fraying in the first half, but there were no clear goalscoring opportunities created.

Marlow’s best chance came from a shot by Jay Welch, which was comfortably held by Taye Ashby-Hammond in the home goal, while Tayo Oyebola tried a bit of magic down the Chipstead left before his cross went just beyond Sam Bell.

Bademosi was foiled after the restart by lastditch defending, before Bell went down the right and found Bademosi, whose glanced shot was just wide of the far post.

Meanwhile, AshbyHammond was earning his corn at the other end, with a vital save to his right, from which the resultant corner was headed over.

The turning point came as a ball into the visitors’ box seemed to hit a Marlow arm but while nothing was given, Bademosi nipped in to turn home the loose ball.

Chipstead nearly doubled their lead when Sam Clayton’s corner was turned over the bar by Sam Page and Bademosi had the ball in the net only to see it ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

Marlow were unable to get the ball past the defiant Ashby-Hammond and Chipstead held on to win and go 12th in the table, with Marlow fifth.

Elsewhere, Molesey were deserved 2-0 winners in a relegation six-pointer against Egham Town, who are now eight points behind them with a game in hand.

In a match in which Egham were unable to replicate their excellent performance in their 1-1 draw with Hayes & Yeading, it was clear why the two sides sit in the bottom two places.

But Molesey were more organised and went ahead when Marley Hamilton tapped in from the game’s first corner early on.

Once ahead, Molesey never looked likely to concede and Hamilton’s smart finish in the second half opened the trapdoor a little wider for Sarnies.

At the other end of the table, Cheshunt made it back-to-back league wins with a 2-0 away victory over Chalfont St Peter after scoring a goal in either half.

In a pretty even first half, the only goal came from Mark Hughes who slotted in from close range as Saints struggled for confidence against their Hertfordshire opponents.

The second half saw the hosts with quite a lot of possession but they were unable to create many clear-cut chances, and Conor Hogan added a late second in time added on.

Hanwell Town were also comfortable 4-0 winners over South Park after goals from Jeremiah Maja, Harry Rush, Calum Duffy and Gareth Chendlik sealed it.

With the visitors giving as good as they got, Hanwell were fortunate to go in at the break with a two-goal advantage.

But while South Park had the greater amount of possession, the only time they worked Aaron Bufton was in the third minute when the Town goalkeeper clawed away Mekhail McLaughlin's header.

Conversely the hosts made the most of their limited chances with Maja and Rush finding the back of the net, before Duffy’s strike and a Chendlik penalty added to South Park’s woes.

Meanwhile, Josh Chamberlain’s strike ensured league leaders Hayes & Yeading secured a 1-0 triumph over Ware, while Bedfont Sports thrashed

Uxbridge 5-1. A brace from Harrison Crawford plus goals from David Pitt, Charlie Postance and Scott Harris ensured an easy afternoon for the hosts, with Matthew Woods scoring for Uxbridge. Elsewhere, Bracknell

Town continued their unbeaten run with a 3-1 win at Hertford Town, Tooting & Mitcham United overcame Waltham Abbey 2-1 and FC Romania lost 1-0 to Westfield.
