Ash and grab! Boro fall to their old boys

- By Adam Matthews

ASHLEY CHAMBERS came back to haunt his former club Nuneaton Borough, as he fired in a hat-trick for Kidderminster Harriers to help his side comfortably defeat the basement boys at Aggborough.

Chambers, along with another former Boro striker Joe Ironside, ensured Harriers kept their playoffs hopes alive and condemned Nuneaton to their 23rd defeat of a miserable season in the process.

Harriers opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Sam Austin laid off a short corner to Ed Williams, who provided a deep cross for Chambers to volley in.

Boro were level before half-time. Taylor Allen’s inswinging corner evaded the Harriers defence and Michael Townsend was on hand to stab the ball in from close range.

Townsend went from hero to villain for Nuneaton straight after the break, as he was adjudged to have handled Chambers’ goalwards chip in the area and Ironside sidefooted in the resulting penalty.

Kidderminster made the game safe in the 78th minute when Liam McAlinden’s awkward left-side cross wasn’t dealt with by the Boro backline and Chambers nodded it home from inside the six-yard-box.

He completed his hat-trick with a minute left, latching onto a loose ball and driving forward from the halfway line before confidently finishing past Cameron Belford.
