LOCAL HERO IS TO THE RESCUE

- By Robin Jones

OADBY Town are back in business – just days after folding through financial difficulties.

A local businessman, who has not yet been named, has now agreed to help finance the club.

Last Friday, chairman Sacha Jak announced that the Poachers were pulling out of the United Counties Premier with immediate effect.

The club’s fixture against Holbeach United last Saturday was accordingly cancelled.

However, supporters and local people have rallied round to pull the Poachers back from the brink, donating to an emergency crowdfunding page which was set up to raise £10,000.

Officials issued an SOS for the money to settle outstanding amounts accumulated during this season and give the club a head start for the next one. A deadline of noon on Wednesday had been set to raise the cash, after which the club would close if funds were not forthcoming, bringing 80 years of history to an end.

But as a result of the swift public response, Oadby have now reached agreement with the league to fulfil their remaining fixtures this season, thereby saving 80 years of local history.

A club statement said: “A local Oadby businessman has agreed to support the club going forward.

“The committee would like thank everyone for their generous and kind support.”
