JOB DONE AS POLICE GRATEFUL TO ROBBO

- By James MacPherson STAR MAN: Oliver Robinson (Met Police) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★

LUKE Robertson ensured Met Police continued their title chase with first-half winner to see off stubborn Kings Langley.

Robertson struck six minutes before the break as Police passed a stern test to move to within two points of leaders Weymouth.

It a hugely tight game with the weather playing a key role throughout the encounter against a determined Langley outfit.

The Blues, though, used the wind to their advantage in the first half as they had a few chances in the air that was dealt with by the impressive Jordan Johnson.

The first chance came from the boys in blue after Max Blackmore out-muscled Johnson and put a ball along the floor to Mikel Platt who has his powerful shot blocked for a corner.

The lead was nearly taken by the home side soon after.

Dave Knight’s firm free kick met the free header of Junior Eldstal but his powerful effort came back off the top of the crossbar by the wind.

The deadlock was evenhalf tually broken, though, on 39 minutes after Donovan Chislet had a volley flicked off the post by the boot of Robertson.

It was no more than the home side deserved as they had been the better team in the opening exchanges of this tight and tense affair between two evenly matched sides.

Langley took advantage of the wind in the second that the Blues had utilised in the first.

The key man for the visitors, Josh Collidott-Stevens tested the goalkeeper with efforts from distance for the second time in the encounter.

The tone of the game turned a bit more heated after both Blues forwards were called offside when they were through on goal, yielding bookings for both

after heated exchanges with the officials.

The Blues applied pressure to Langley as they hunted for a second goal which would have surely ended the game as a contest.

And Jack Mazzone who had just come on, got in behind the defence, putting the keeper under slight pressure with her hasslingp lay.

The Langley substitute Andronicos Georgiou did well to beat Nesta GuinessWalker, but the back line in Blue remained solid as they cleared the ball firmly across goal from striker Georgiou.

Langley had a chance to damage the Blues after Mitchell Weiss beat Schotterl to the ball and pulled it across goal but it was smashed off the line by Webb before Ward could get there.

Langley did all they could to grab an equaliser as Jorrell Johnson piled forward.

And his powerful ball was smashed into the 18yard box only to be gathered and taken well by Schotterl to keep his clean sheet intact.
