The Non-League Football Paper

CLEAR AS CRYSTAL

- By David Richardson

RAMSGATE star Jacob Mensah has landed a dream move to the Premier League with Crystal Palace after being given his chance in Non-League.

The promising centre-back came up through the Rams academy before breaking into the first team.

Mensah made 60 appearances for Nick Davis’ side in the Bostik League South East catching the eye of Wolves, Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff. The 18-year-old had a trial at Brighton earlier this year, but Palace won the race to sign him.

“What a fantastic opportunity for Jacob and we wish him all the best,” Nick said.

“He has all the physical attributes and being coached every day will give him the best opportunity to play as high up the pyramid as possible.”

Director and chief executive officer Paul Bowden-Brown added: “Although there is no financial gain for the club, a pre-season game against a strong U23s has been arranged and it will give the supporters a chance to see this young man playing in the colours of Crystal Palace.

“I wish Jacob the very best with his new challenge and I’m sure he is looking forward to meeting up with his new teammates.

“This is a great advert for Non-League football and Ramsgate Football Club. With its robust youth set-up, it gives inspiration to any other young footballers that wish to follow in Jacob’s footsteps to come and join Ramsgate Football Club.”
