JOSH GRABS WIN FOR CELTIC

Boro boss Kittrick axed by Seadogs following defeat

- By Andrew Davies

JOSHUA Solomon-Davies scored a late goal to grab all three points for Stalybridge Celtic as they beat play-off chasing Scarborough.

It was a defeat that saw Scarborough boss Steve Kittrick and assistant Chris Bolder sacked after the game, with Steve Roberts taking over on an interim basis. Scarborough had started the afternoon hoping to secure a win that would see them return to a play-off berth. James Walshaw tried his luck from distance on five minutes, only for Patrick Wharton to save comfortably in the Celtic goal. It wasn’t until the 27th minute that there was another effort of note. Bizarrely, it came in the way of Boro goalkeeper Tommy Taylor punting a long ball forward, which picked up pace in the wind and bounced very narrowly over the visitors’ crossbar with Wharton beaten.

Then, just three minutes later, the hosts did find the back of the net. Ryan Watson, returning from a long injury lay-off, crossed for Walshaw and at the second attempt, the prolific marksman smashed the ball home to give the Seadogs the lead.

Stalybridge controlled the second half, largely in part to the wind making it difficult for Boro to get out of their own half.

As the clock ticked down, it looked as though Scarborough were going to hold out for the three points.

However, in the 88th minute, Stalybridge were rewarded for their secondhalf pressure.

Bakkor picked up the ball on the edge of the box and drilled a low shot across Taylor, which nestled in the bottom corner.

With the hosts still coming to terms with the goal, another attack by the visitors saw Boro fail to clear their lines a number of times and eventually, Solomon-Davies rolled the ball under Taylor to give Stalybridge the win.
