THE PRYCE IS RIGHT AS GILL’S MEN FIGHT BACK

- By Mark Stillman

BATH CITY 1 WEALDSTONE 1 BATH remain unbeaten at home and Wealdstone unbeaten away in 2019 following this stalemate.

Sol Pryce’s bullet header, six minutes into his debut, claimed a deserved point for Jerry Gill’s men in an entertaining encounter.

Both sides enjoyed good spells of possession in the opening 20 minutes, but it was Wealdstone who had the first chance when Simon Mensah’s charging run created space for Tarryn Allarakhia, but the Crawley loanee struck too close to Ryan Clarke.

Jonathan North’s first test was from an audacious Frankie Artus overhead, but the stopper watched it well and gathered inside his post.

The Stones took the lead on 28 minutes in fortunate circumstances. Allarakhia dazzled the home back line and fizzed in a low cross that Robbie Cundy inadvertently diverted into his own net.

The visitors searched for a fifth clean sheet in six away matches, but they were made to pay for being conservative.

Having been denied by a last-ditch interception, Pryce met Joe Raynes’ corner with a header past North.

Pryce nodded over soon after, and Artus’s block thwarted Daniel Green at the other end. Neither side could find another, leaving City in the play-offs and Wealdstone playing catch-up.
