MOLES DIG OUT VICTORY

- By Kumail Jaffer

CENTRAL ROUND-UP

TY DEACON and Ryan Young’s sublime performances gave Aylesbury

FC the edge as they ran out 3-2 winners in a dramatic tie against Dunstable Town.

After Young jinked past his defender to power home a lead for Aylesbury, Deacon was on hand to double the lead with a subtle flick.

The away side halved the deficit instantly after James Lauder converted a teasing cross before Deacon set up a grateful Lewis Merridan to restore Aylesbury’s lead before half-time.

Dunstable grew into the game after the break, however, but Chris Wreh’s penalty wasn’t enough as the hosts collected three valuable points in their fight against relegation. Bromsgrove Sporting continued to put pressure on league leaders Peterborough Sports with a professional 3-0 victory over Welwyn Garden

City at Herns Way. Richard Gregory came off the bench early in the game to score with an astounding volley after Jason Cowley put in a precise cross.

Kieron Westwood doubled Bromsgrove’s lead before half time after the forward pounced onto his own rebound.

Cowley was the architect once again after half-time as his deflected free-kick ran into the path of Jake Heath, who made no mistake.

Elsewhere, Thame lifted themselves into a play-off spot after a 4-2 comeback victory over Barton Rovers.

The home side took an early lead thanks to Charlie Clayton before Lynton Goss and Andrew Gledhill put Thame in the driving seat.

Poor defending allowed Daniel West to extend Thame’s lead before Victor Obusu finished off a fluid Rovers move to reduce the deficit, but Liam Tack’s strike ensured all three points went to the visitors.

A brilliant second-half double from striker Jonathan Letford allowed his Sutton Coldfield Town side to run out 3-1 winners against strugglers Yaxley.

After Ryan Nesbitt hit a free-kick narrowly wide and Letford was denied by

a world-class double save from Aaron Butcher, Nesbitt converted a penalty after the forward went down in the box.

Letford opened his account after Sutton came flying out of the blocks in the second half, with the diminutive Alexander Curtis crossing to the striker, who wrong-footed the keeper and flicked home.

Joe Butterworth halved the deficit for Yaxley with half an hour to go, but any notion of a comeback was quashed by another precise Letford finish a minute from time.

Goals from Josh Oyinsan and Max Booth secured a shock 2-0 win for

Cambridge City against playoff hopefuls Coleshill Town.

City took the lead after 12 minutes when full back Seb Simpson whipped in an accurate ball to Oyinsan, who he side-footed home.

They could have been two or three up by half time as Ryan Sharman headed into the side netting before Oyinsan almost doubled his own tally after a cross from Michael Davis.

City ensured a deserved win when Booth intercepted a back pass from Matt Jackson to round the keeper and roll into an empty net.

Tre Mitford rescued a point for Aylesbury United as his side held

AFC Dunstable to a 1-1 draw at Creasey Park.

A dull first half was soon forgotten by the hosts after BJ Christie lashed in a screamer to give them the lead and set their sights on a playoff spot.

But the home side’s dreams were soon dashed after a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Mitford to finish coolly past the Dunstable keeper.

Declan Benjamin’s winner proved enough as

Kidlington recorded a dogged 1-0 victory over

Berkhamsted FC to lift the home side in their bid to avoid the drop.

An early finish from striker Benjamin separated the sides in a tense game as Kidlington won their second in a row.
