SHAYMEN GO WILD AS FYLDE ARE CRUSHED

- By Kelly Gilchrist

FABULOUS FC Halifax Town maintained their 100% home record with an impressive victory over last season’s beaten playoff finalists AFC Fylde.

First-half goals from striker Liam McAlinden put the Shaymen into a two-goal lead before Danny Rowe pulled one back for the Coasters before the break.

But a simply stunning second-half performance was finished off by goals from Cameron King and Jerome Binnom-Williams to ensure all three points for Pete Wild’s side.

Former Town midfielder Matty Kosylo returned to the Shay following his summer move to Fylde and he was greeted by jeers from the home fans, he set up the first chance of the game Lewis Montrose, but his effort was well saved by Sam Johnson.

McAlinden put Town ahead after great play from Cameron King to the left of the penalty area and he fired past the visiting keeper for his second goal of the season.

Cameron King’s shot was heading goal bound a few minutes later but a last-gasp block saved Fylde on that occasion.

Town grabbed their second from a Fylde corner, breaking quickly and the impressive King played a perfectly timed pass through ball to find Tobi Sho-Silva, who raced towards goal and slotted the ball past James Montgomery into the bottom corner.

Fylde pulled one back just before the break through their dangerman striker Rowe forcing home a corner that wasn’t cleared by the home defence.

King and McAlinden had efforts in the second half but Town weren’t to be denied more goals. King got on the end of a superb Jamie Allen pass, showing brilliant technique to fire his low shot past James Montgomery.

Sho-Silva had a shot go wide as Town were rampant, a King effort was superbly turned over the bar by Montgomery, but the referee Declan Bourne wrongly signalled for a goal-kick.

Town’s best goal was the final one with Binnom Williams going back the static Fylde defence and lifted the ball past Montgomery unchallenged into the top corner.

The day was finished for the Shaymen with Josh MacDonald returning to competitive action for the first time since February 17, 2018 following a serious injury.

Delighted Shaymen boss Wild: “I am really pleased; I asked the players to be ruthless today and see what they could do against a team that’s not doing well. We should have had more goals in the first half, they are young lads and they will miss chances.

“It was comfortable in the end; we have goals in us and it’s really pleasing. We are building on the defensive mindsight of last season and adding the goals in.”
