PROTESTING STRIKER HIT BY BIG BAN!
STRIKER Linford Harris - whose teammates walked off the pitch in a cup final after he was allegedly racially abused by a spectator – has been banned for six games.
His club, North Leicestershire League side Wymeswold, have been fined £125.
Harris, who was also fined £40, was playing for Wymeswold Reserves against Cosby United Development in the Leicestershire FA Saturday Vase final on April 3 when he was sent off in the 78th minute.
After he claimed that he had been subjected to racist abuse by a spectator, several players argued with members of the 200-strong crowd at the county FA’s Holmes Park headquarters.
Harris and team-mate Reece Lewin, who was also said to have confronted the man who made the alleged comments, were both sent off.
The Wymeswold players then walked off the pitch and the game was subsequently abandoned.
The FA’s Disciplinary Commission charged Harris with two accounts of “improper conduct” including “violent conduct and threatening and/or abusive language and behaviour”.
Harris has indicated that he intends to appeal against the sentence.
A Leicestershire & Rutland County FA spokesman said: “All charges relating to the Cosby United and FC Wymeswold match have now been heard by an Independent Regulatory Commission.
“The outcomes are still subject to appeal and therefore we are not in a position to comment at this stage. Written reasons, which will include details of all the charges and explain the reasons for any disciplinary action taken, will be published by The FA in due course.”
The spokesperson added: “We are also aware that a related police investigation is ongoing.”
