SAINTS CRASH TO FIRST LOSS AT HANDS OF BRAVE BALA

CHRIS Venables was once again the difference for Bala Town as they came from behind to send

The New Saints crashing to their first defeat of the season in the JD Cymru Premier.

Venables, 34, a three-times golden boot winner, fired a second-half double as the champions were put to the sword 3-1 at Maes Tegid.

Louis Robles also netted after the break for Bala after Dean Ebbe had given TNS a first half lead.

It’s now two wins from two for Bala and four goals in two for Venables, who also bagged a brace in their 2-1 win at Airbus UK Broughton on the opening weekend.

Joining them on six points were Barry Town United, who beat Aberystwyt­h Town 3-1 at Jenner Park to continue their winning start.

Kayne McLaggon scored a goal in each half to make it three in two for him, while Clayton Green was also on the scoresheet. Paulo Mendes scored a late consolatio­n for Aber.

Three other sides are unbeaten after two matches.

Cardiff Met followed up on their draw at Connah’s Quay with a 3-1 win at newly-promoted Penybont.

Will Evans, Dylan Rees – from the penalty spot – and Mael Davies were on target for Met.

Luke Borrelli scored a late penalty in reply for Penybont, who are yet to get off the mark.

Other promoted side Airbus are also still looking for their first point after going down 3-1 at Cefn Druids.

Cody Ruberto, a Alec Mudimu penalty and Nathan Peate were the Druids scorers to make it four points from six for them. Jordan Evans netted for Airbus.

Newtown have the same tally after goals in each half from Nick Rushton and Ian Sheridan saw them beat Carmarthen Town 2-1 in front of the live S4C cameras at Richmond Park. Dave Vincent netted for the Old Gold. Caernarfon Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads drew 0-0.

Haverfordw­est County continued their winning start to the season in JD Cymru South by seeing off Pontypridd Town 3-1.

First-half goals from Harri Rowe and Elliot Thomas put the Bluebirds in control at half time and, after Josh Maksimovic pulled one back for Pontypridd, Miles John sealed the points with a deflected third in the second half.

Cambrian & Clydach, last season’s runners-up, are also two from two after Liam Reed secured them a 1-0 win at Undy Athletic.

Prestatyn Town are the early pacesetter­s in JD Cymru North after they hit promoted Corwen for six to make it two wins from two.

Rob Hughes bagged himself a hat-trick, which included two penalties, while Jordan Davies, Jack Kenny and Danny Davies also netted in the 6-1 romp.

David Williams replied for Corwen.

Rhyl also have six points after first half goals from Sam Molyneux and James Murphy fired them to 2-1 home win over Llangefni Town.

Meanwhile after a tumultuous summer, Bangor City finally got their campaign under way at Conwy Borough yesterday, drawing 0-0.

Colwyn Bay’s first league match since returning to the Welsh pyramid system ended in a 1-0 home defeat by Flint Town United.
