The Non-League Football Paper

FSA HAVE POSTIVE ALLIANCE TALKS

- By David Richardson

THE Football Supporters’ Association are to hold conversations with the individual leagues across Steps 1 to 4 following a positive meeting with the Alliance Committee. The FSA met with committee members on Monday to put forward their proposals for better regulation in football following the expulsion of Bury from League One. The group is calling for The Football Association to be the overall regulatory body. “The EFL and the Premier League currently operate independently of The FA for governance,” Andy Walsh of the FSA told The NLP. “In Non-League, the governance of the leagues is still overseen by the FA. We see that as positive, of course we still want to see a tightening up of the rules and regulations particularly around the Owners and Directors’ test and we want to see the regulations across the game being more consistent. “Where there are areas of good practice we want them applied across the whole game. Where there are weaknesses and holes in the regulations we want to see them reviewed and brought into line with the best practice there is elsewhere. “We’re not without our problems in Non-League but we feel there are areas of regulation in Non-League that would strengthen the regulations in the EFL and the Premier League. In short, we as representatives of football fans want the fans voice to be heard within the game. We think we have an important role to play.” The FSA will now hold conversations with the National League, Northern Premier League, Isthmian League and Southern Premier League to help better protect NonLeague clubs. “More detailed conversations are now having to take place within the leagues,” Walsh confirmed.
