AGENT DARREN, YOUR WORK IS NOW DONE!

- By Matt Badcock

DARREN FREEMAN says he will forever cherish his time at Lewes after resigning as manager to work full-time for a German football agency.

The popular Rooks boss signed off his managerial career in yesterday’s Isthmian Premier game against Cray Wanderers.

Freeman guided the Sussex club to Isthmian Division One South promotion in 2017-18 having taken over in 2015.

Having had a successful playing career at hometown club Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham and Brentford, Freeman’s first management job was at Whitehawk where his team won three promotions in four years to reach Step 2.

The 46-year-old has been working for long-time friend Dirk Hebel at SportsTotal – who boast German international Toni Kroos among their clients – in recent months and has now been offered a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

In a message to the Rooks fans Freeman said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the miles you’ve driven, the trains you have ridden, games you’ve attended home and away and chants you’ve started.

“Your support has been amazing and something I will cherish and remember for ever.

“Unfortunately, my new role at SportsTotal simply does not allow me to give Lewes Football Club the attention it needs so it is with a heavy heart I have decided to step down as first team manager.

“I am not going to be a stranger at the football club and hope to see you all soon.”
