KETTLE IS RED HOT FOR BORO

- By Max Banner

NUNEATON Borough recorded their first league away of the season in style, brushing aside a lethargic Bromsgrove Sporting outfit.

The home side got off to the perfect start when Tom Taylor gave them the lead 13 minutes in.

But a header from Joel Kettle, followed by further goals from Alex Henshall and Callum Powell ensured the Boro bagged all three points with ease.

Nuneaton’s Devon Kelly-Evans had the first chance of the game with a strike just over from 20 yards, closely followed by Bromsgrove’s Greg Mills free-kick which was just kept out by keeper Jordan Wright.

The opener came soon after as a corner that Nuneaton were unable to deal with allowed defender Taylor to strike the ball home through a melee of bodies. Nuneaton’s equaliser came 13 minutes later – Luke Benbow’s freekick curling invitingly into the area and headed into the bottom corner by Kettle.

The remainder of the half was all Nuneaton; an Isaiah Osbourne one-onone hit wide and a brace of chances for Benbow – the latter a volley saved well by Tony Breeden – were just some of the many chances the visitors had before the break.

Inevitably, a second was to come and di nine minutes into the re-start – Kelly-Evans bombing up the wing, before putting a ball in that an unmarked Henshall tapped into an empty net at the far post.

Powell and Henshall both went close to adding to the scoreline, while Bromsgrove sub Shaquille McDonald saw his 30-yard free-kick tipped over the bar.

In the end, the third came 13 minutes from time – Powell cutting inside the defence and unleashing a shot which deflected off Kyle Lincoln and looping over a stranded Breeden.
