TEN-MAN Pontefract

Collieries recorded a 3-2 victory away at Widnes in the Northern Premier League North West Division.

A few opening exchanges saw both sides create chances, but it was the hosts who started the better as Sam Sheen drove the ball 60 yards and teed up Ben Hodkinson, who had his effort turned behind goal.

With 24 minutes on the clock, Widnes took the lead when Murray gained back possession in a hardfought battle and Hodkinson slotted home from a difficult angle.

After the break, Hodkinson scored his second of the match following up from Rhain Hellawell’s blocked effort and heading into the net.

Pontefract pulled one back when Vaughan Redford powered a close-range header home in the 65th minute but the visitors’ task became harder when Michael Dunn was sent off for lashing out against Fiznik Hajdari.

However, it didn’t seem to affect the side with Connor Smythe curling in a superb free-kick moments later to level the game.

As both sides looked for a winner, it was Pontefract who sealed the victory when Cody Cromack’s corner went straight in. It was Pontefract’s sixth win of the season, as they sit fourth in the table on 19 points while Widnes are in 15th on nine points.

At the UTS Stadium, Darius Palma scored the winner as Trafford secured a 4-3 victory away at Dunston. Lewis Salmon’s goal from the spot put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute but Scott Heslop equalised just five minutes later.

Just before the break, Heslop added his second of the afternoon to put Dunston in front but Salmon added to his tally in the 56th minute to level the scores.

Moments later, Ross Davidson put Trafford back in front, but it didn’t last for long as a Matt Cooper own goal gave Dunston a chance to have a share of the spoils.

With ten minutes on the clock, Palma found the back of the net to clinch Trafford’s fifth victory of the league campaign and leave them eighth in the table, while Dunston are hovering one point above the relegation zone.

Tadcaster Albion and Ossett United played out a draw in a hardfought Yorkshire derby at The Global Stadium. The first chance of the game came when Tadcaster’s Kevin Santos curled an effort towards the top corner, but Ossett goalkeeper Jacob Chapman tipped it over to keep the scores level.

The visitors had an opportunity when a dangerous corner went into the box but it was punched away by Michael Ingham.

Ossett had a penalty appeal in the 34th minute when Guest when down but after some consideration the referee decided it was just a collision.

First blood went to Ossett in the 58th minute when Jake Rose headed the ball away but it found Alex McQuade who hooked it into the back of the net from close range.

The lead lasted just five minutes when Alex Wiles pulled back to defender Ioan Evans who bundled home from close range which was enough to claim a point.

For Tadcaster, it was their first dropped points at home in the league but they still sit second in the table with Ossett in 17th. While top of the table

Workington had their home match against Runcorn Linnets postponed due after advice from the Safety Advisory Group about an issue with the ground safety certificate at Borough Park.
