EAGLES SOAR AS THOMAS LEADS A SIX GOAL SHOW

- By Roger Worsley

THOMAS Hitchcock scored twice as Bedford

Town ended an emotional week by putting six past

Wantage Town at The Eyrie in the Southern Central Division.

The Eagles tragically lost their main director David Taylor earlier in the week but checked their emotions as they delivered a brilliant attacking display to down Wantage.

The hosts dominated from the get go but try as they might in the first half goals went abegging until Hitchcock struck just before the break to give them a deserved lead.

Another five goals would follow after the break, starting with Hitchcock completing his double in the 58th minute before substitute Nathan Olukamni raced free to make it three.

Dan Walker was next on the scoresheet as he latched onto a through ball to put the ball past Wantage goalkeeper Renell McKenzie-Lyle.

Brett Longden then hit a screamer to give Bedford a fifth goal before another sub, Drew Phillips, calmly slotted the ball home just inside stoppage time to round off proceedings.

Coleshill Town similarly thumped their opponents as Liam Molesworth’s double guided them to a routine win over Kempston Rovers.

In a crunch game between two sides too close to the bottom of the table on just seven points, Coleshill had far the greater quality in coming out winners.

The home side got off to the best possible start, too, as they were 2-0 up after just five minutes.

In the second minute, Lewis Rankin’s free kick was met by a deft header from Molesworth to beat the diving Carl Knox in the Kempston net.

Soon after clever footwork by George Washbourne made space for Rankin in the box and his left foot bending shot found the corner of the net.

Things got even worse for the visitors as Alfie Powell was shown a red card for pulling back Edilson Panzo-Antonio while he was free on goal.

Despite being down to ten men Kempston battled on gamely and they got their reward when Izale McLeod scored from the spot after Jake Newman had been brought down.

This livened Coleshill into action and they got their own penalty when Amarvir Sandhu was also brought down in the area, Molesworth adding his second from the spot before Sandhu set up Luke Keen for Coleshill’s fourth at the death.

There was also five goals at Yarnton Road where Kidlington edged past Yaxley.

In the 16th minute, the hosts were ahead through Lewis Coyle direct from a 30-yard free kick before Yaxley levelled soon after.

In a tightly contested second half the visitors then took the lead on the 55th minute but the turning point came when they were reduced to ten men.

This saw Kidlington burst back into life and they equalised through Leam Howards before Declan Benjamin’s brilliant solo goal sealed the result in the 76th minute. Elsewhere, Bedworth

United kept their strong form going with a narrow win over Didcot Town.

After only eight minutes the home side took the lead when Reece Blackmore struck a sweet volley from the edge of the box.

The lead wasn’t held for long though as straight from the kick off George Reid’s shot beat Paul Evans in the Bedworth goal.

After much pressure, and with just seven minutes left, Bedworth snatched the lead decisively back through Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls. Meanwhile, Halesowen Town moved up to fifth with victory over Biggleswade at The Carlsberg Stadium.
