HAZEL THE HOME HERO IN LATE WIN

- By Ella Jerman

JACOB Hazel scored two last-gasp goals to steer

Frickley Athletic to a 2-1 comeback home victory over Spalding United.

They were made to work hard for the points as both teams went head-to-head.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges but were unable to find a way through with Spalding defenders Ben Greenwood and Taron Hare on hand to clear the danger.

Joel Brownhill had the best chance of the firsthalf for visitors Spalding but his long-range effort fizzed just over the bar.

Kevin Bastos began to create problems for Frickley, the striker turning his man in the box before going down but the visitors were not awarded a penalty as the two sides went in level at the break.

It was Spalding who were having the better of the second-half chances, Brownhill going close on numerous occasions and they finally found their breakthrough when the former played in Bastos who fired into the net past the stranded keeper.

Frickley weren’t going to go down without a fight and found the equaliser when Hazel turned home in the 82nd minute, before the striker turned home again in the final minute of play to secure a win that just minutes before looked unforeseeable for the home side.

Spalding will be left annoyed they couldn’t come away with a point after Bastos’ late long-range effort came rattling back off the bar.

The result takes Frickley level on points with Spalding with 20, the latter sitting once place ahead in ninth on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Tom Greaves scored twice as

Ossett United secured a 3-2 home victory against

Prescot Cables.

United started off the better of the two sides and Greaves scored his two goals in as many firsthalf minutes to get the home fans off their seats cheering, before Marko Basic launched the home celebrations into full swing with a 41st minute strike to send them in 3-0 up at half-time.

It took until the final 20 minutes for the visitors to really get going, Matty Hamilton and Cameron Moore both having a big impact once they came off the bench and the Cables really pushed to salvage anything they could after what was a dismal firsthalf showing away from home.

They got the lift they needed whn George Hassall pulled one back with fifteen minutes to play before adding his second just five minutes later to give Prescot a late lifeline as the away side pushed on in search of the point.

But Ossett United held on until the end for an important three points to lift them into 18th, while Prescot Cables slip to tenth.

Despite the loss, the Cables will take relief from the fact they sit just three points behind the promotion spots.

Christoph Yao-Aziamale scored the only goal of the game as Market Drayton

Town triumphed over Glossop North End.

The visitors secured their third away win of the season thanks to Yao-Aziamale’s later winner to move up to 17th in the division, two points ahead of Newcastle Town at the bottom.

Elsewhere, Stocksbridge Park Steels could not continue their push for promotion after their home game with Carlton Town was postponed, the fixture to be rearranged in due course.

The Steels were not the only team not in action, with the games between Cleethorpes and Kidsgrove Athletic, Dunston FC and Ramsbottom United and Marske United and Clitheroe all set to be rearranged after the respective pitches failed their early inspections.
