BURY MADE TO SUFFER BY HARVEY SICKENER

- By John Alcock

TABLE-TOPPING Bury Town had to settle for a point as Robert Harvey’s second-half equaliser earned Coggeshall Town a draw in a hard-fought game.

A tense opening half-hour to the game delivered very little in front of goal, with the game swinging from end to end without much in the way of chances.

But all that changed with 34 minutes on the clock as Bury broke the deadlock.

Some excellent link-up play between Ryan Stafford and Max Maughn ended with a super through ball to Cemal Ramadan at the far post, leaving him to coolly and confidently slot beyond goalkeeper Ashlee Jones.

It was the goal that Bury deserved, but they weren’t able to capitalise on it across the rest of the half, with their onegoal advantage maintained as they headed into half-time.

The second half was much of the same with both teams attempting plenty of endeavour but without much to show for their efforts.

It looked as though that Ramadan goal would be enough for Bury – who are now level on points with Heybridge Swifts at the top of the table – to claim all three points.

But it was Coggeshall who were next to strike, breaking through the defences before Harvey profited from a loose ball to find the net from close range.

It was just the fourth game this season that Bury have not won in the league, while Coggeshall’s own promotion credentials are given a good showing as they sit third, just a point behind the lead pair.

They face another big game next Saturday with a trip to fifth-placed Grays Athletic, while Bury are also on the road, as they prepare to travel to Histon.
