DOUBLE DOUBLES ALL ROUND FOR WARE

- By Andy Baber

BRACES for Harry Watkins and Kyle Roberts ensured Ware kept the pressure up on league leaders Hanwell Town as they thrashed Bracknell

Town 6-1 at Larges Lane. Watkins headed the visitors into an early lead after just seven minutes before Louis Rose doubled Ware’s advantage by lashing home the loose ball from a corner with a stunning volley.

The third goal arrived on 25 minutes as Watkins grabbed his second of the game, but Bracknell gave themselves hope when Nathan Minhas headed home a corner on the half-hour.

Yet just as the hosts were preparing to regroup at half-time, Ware struck again through Joshua Williams to leave Bracknell with a mountain to climb in the second half.

The Robins tried in vain to find a way back into the contest after the restart but it was Ware who found the net again with Roberts scoring twice late on to secure the three points.

Ware are now just two points behind Hanwell Town at the summit with a game in hand after their midweek game at Marlow was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere, promotion rivals Uxbridge were left frustrated after

Westfield staged a second-half comeback to overcome a two-goal deficit and secure a 2-2 draw.

Màrk Bitmead had given the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after 27 minutes before Mahlondo Martin increased Uxbridge’s advantage going into the half-time break.

Westfield began their fightback in the 54th minute when Tinashe Nkoma converted a penalty for the visitors and just three minutes later, Aaron Watson equalised for a share of the points. Fourth-placed Harlow

Town also slipped up in their quest to close the gap on the top three, losing 2-1 at home against

Northwood after conceding two first-half goals.

Eric Lopes fired Northwood in front after 22 minutes and Ethan Flanagan doubles the visitors’ lead three minutes later as Harlow went into the half-time interval 2-0 down.

Tayo Oyebola cut the deficit in half when he pulled a goal back soon after the restart, but despite the best efforts of the hosts they were unable to find an equaliser.

There was better news for Waltham Abbey as they gained ground in the play-off race thanks to Prince Domafriyie’s goal six minutes from time against Ashford Town.

It looked likely to end goalless as both sides struggled to create chances in a game dominated by the defences, but Domafriyie’s late intervention secured a 1-0 win for the visitors.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, FC Romania

were unable to take advantage of Ashford Town’s defeat as they were also beaten by

Chalfont St Peter.

FC Romania took an unlikely lead after 11 minutes when Gabriel Ghinea found the net but the visitors equalised through Dan Williams to make it 1-1 at half-time.

And with FC Romania looking for only their third win of the campaign, Williams went down the other end and sealed all three points for Chalfont St Peter with just over ten minutes to go.

There was also plenty of tension at Wheatsheaf Park as

Staines Town picked up another point in their battle to avoid the drop, holding Bedfont Sports to a goalless draw.

It was a scoreline that was repeated at Tooting & Mitcham United, whose winless league run now stands at three games after their own scoreless draw with Marlow.
