NEWMAN AT THE DOUBLE IN COMEBACK

- By Matthew Vine

KEMPSTON Rovers produced a remarkable comeback against AFC

Dunstable to steer themselves further clear of the relegation zone.

It was the visitors that started brightly in a Bedfordshire derby and they took the lead in the fifth minute when Tony Burnett tucked home after a scramble.

Dunstable doubled their lead early in the second half with captain Ryan Frater heading home from close range.

Rovers had it all to do and started the comeback in the 67th minute when Jake Newman squeezed the ball under the OD’s keeper.

Kempston levelled ten minutes later as substitute Gareth Hunt fed Ben Baker, who drilled into the far corner.

The turnaround was completed in the 85th minute when substitute Kerran Birch’s cross was met by Newman, who latched onto the end of it and headed home from close range.

Hosts

North Leigh

made it four league wins from their last six with a brilliant 4-2 win at a frosty Eynsham Park to see off fellow playoff challengers

Barton Rovers.

An even contest saw the terms level at the break after Callum McNish scored first for the Millers but Victor Osobu equalised seven minutes later.

But after the break, North Leigh returned to the pitch with an extra gear as they dominated possession.

Defender Adam Learoyd’s header put the Millers back in front and striker George Seacole extended the advantage shortly after.

Barton’s Nathan Tshikuna scored a screamer to reduce the deficit and keep his side in the game but Seacole restored the two-goal lead in the 82nd minute.

The fourth goal ensured the home side claimed the win and moved level on 19 points with Barton and sit one place behind in 13th position.

Gregory Hackett provided two assists as Thame

United secured a 2-0 victory against Biggleswade at Meadow View Park.

In a close encounter, the hosts opened the scoring in the 45th minute when Hackett put in a cross from the right which found Thomas Ashworth with plenty of space in the box to volley the ball into the back of the net.

Thame increased their lead in the 53rd minute when Ryan Blake headed home from a Hackett cross.

However, Biggleswade got on the scoresheet when a mistake at the back meant the referee awarded a penalty for handball and Nathan George stepped up calmly to score.

But it was only a consolation for the visitors, as Thame dug in deep to hold on and claim all three points.

Piggon earned Bedworth

United their sixth win of the season as they defeated

Yaxley 1-0 away at the Decker Bus Stadium.

The visitors went ahead in the sixth minute after a cross from Luke Rowe was knocked down by Alexander Troke and Piggon blasted into the back of the net from eight yards out.

Despite Yaxley’s Daniel Cotton having several chances on goal, the hosts couldn’t find a breakthrough which has left them languishing in 15th while Bedworth move up to tenth.

Elsewhere Declan Benjamin scored Kidlington’s only goal as they held on with ten men to beat St

Neots Town.

Kidlington went in front in the 28th minute, however they lost their captain Lewis Coyle ten minutes after a scuffle but held on to clinch a vital three points.
