Late show Rhys grabs point

- By Machel Hewitt

RHYS MURPHY’S last gasp equaliser ensured Yeovil returned from Kent with a valuable point.

An incident packed first half between two high-flyers saw both teams reduced to ten men before Frankie Raymond gave Bromley the lead with a penalty midway through the second half. However Murphy’s intervention with the last kick of the game left Yeovil manager Darren Sarll a relieved man.

“I thought we played ok today,” he said. “Bromley are good at what they do but so are we.

“We worked the ball well at the death and we deserved that goal. I thought Bromley’s penalty looked soft and our sending off I thought their player was offside. So when we got the equaliser it was no more than we deserved.”

In an end-to-end first half Bromley should have taklet en the lead on the quarter hour but Ben Williamson side-footed Luke Coulson’s cross wide with only Stuart Nelson to beat.

Myles Hippolyte had Yeovil’s first effort on goal when his shot from distance was parried away by Ryan Huddart.

Murphy had an even better opportunity but saw his effort saved by Huddart after he met Albi Skendi’s cross.

The pendulum seemed to swing in Bromley’s direction when Lee Collins was adjudged to have committed a professional foul on Williamson.

However Bromley failed to capitalise on the man advantage as Chris Bush was sent off for a carbon copy of the Collins incident.

The Bromley defender adjudged to have prevented a goal scoring opportunity for Courtney Duffus.

With both teams having to rejig their shape in the second 45, the game became increasingly scrappy.

Billy Bingham curled an effort just wide ten minutes after the restart before Raymond’s penalty broke the deadlock.

Raymond was clipped in the penalty area by Tom Bradbury before dusting himself down to smash the ball home from the spot.

Raymond could have sealed the game with eight minutes to go after his lung-busting run saw him receive Coulson’s pass inside the penalty area but he was denied by Nelson.

Huddart nearly gifted Yeovil an equaliser as he Chris Dagnall’s effort squirm under his body but recovered to save the ball on the goal-line.

Yeovil were not to be denied, however, and in the seventh minute of five scheduled minutes of added on time Murphy pounced to break Bromley hearts.

Bromley boss Neil Smith said: “I’ve had to ask the referee why we played seven minutes and not five minutes. I genuinely dont know where he got it from.

“I’ve had a look at our sending off and Bush looks like he jumps out of the way and doesn’t make contact but ultimately he gave the referee a decision to make.”
