RAMPAGING EARLY RED

- By Nigel Jepson By Nigel Oldrini

RAMSBOTTOM recovered from an early Iyrwah Gooden red card to put Droyslden to the sword with a comprehensive victory.

On a heavy pitch, Ramsbottom took the game to the visitors with Josh Hmami opening the scoring on the five-minute mark after a clever run and finish.

The game threatened to turn on its head when home striker Gooden was sent off shortly after in what looked a harsh decision with no apparent intent to cause harm.

Droylsden came back into the game, monopolising possession but unable to penetrate the home defence.

On the stroke of half-time, Hmami punished the visitors for their inability to score with his second goal, a header from a free kick from Nic Evangelinos.

The Rams came out in the second half looking hungry for a third which duly came following a good run and cross from Ruben Jerome leading to a tap-in goal for Evangelinos, all-but sealing the points.

BELPER Town leapfrogged neighbours Carlton Town in the league table with a narrow victory at the Raygar Stadium.

Alex Peterson put Belper in front with a smart finish from Danny Gordon’s cross, the opening goal coming with just 16 minutes of the game gone.

And when Evan Garnett made it two with a superb solo run and finish on the stroke of half-time, the Nailers were in control with Carlton looking destined for defeat. the subs, Daniel Naidole and Karl Jones, adding fourth and fifth goals respectively.

Naidole’s strike was perhaps the most impressive of the lot, chipping the goalkeeper from outside the box, with the goalscorer then turning provider for Jones to tap home from a few yards out.

This was a well-deserved victory for the home team, spending most of the match with ten men but rising from fifth to third.

The Rams have also scored five goals in their last three home games, the first occurrence of run since 2012.

The visitors had the lion’s share of possession after the break and reduced the arrears when Tom Maddison converted a spot kick on 65 minutes.

The visitors kept pressing but couldn’t find a way through and Belper claimed a deserved three points.

NEWCASTLE Town battled back from conceding an early goal to record their first home win in the league and move off the bottom of the table.

Town keeper Rajaan Gill made two early saves but Loughborough took the lead when Alex Steadman fired home despite appearing to be offside.

Castle equalised on 14 minutes when skipper James Askey headed home from a corner, with the home fans hopeful of more to come in the match.
