FIVE-STAR WESTFIELD KEEP ON FIGHTING

- By Jordan Massey

WESTFIELD are back within a win of BetVictor Isthmian League South Central top spot after a 5-0 home thrashing of

Ashford Town.

Elijah Simpson and Aaron Watson were both at the double though the scoreline perhaps flattered the hosts, who benefited from good fortune for both their opening goals.

Max Blackmore and Simpson both netted within the opening 25 minutes, with Simpson wrapping up the points before Watson’s late double.

Waltham Abbey

ensured they’ll go in to 2020 still in the hunt for promotion after their 3-1 win at home to Harlow.

Waltham sit fourth but with teams around them boasting games in hand, this was a vital three points against a Harlow side that would have been in touching distance of the play-offs with a win.

It was the visitors who took the lead when Jeremi Sivi fired home before Rimmell Daniel, Prince Domafriyie and Rob Clarke turned the game on its head.

Tooting & Mitcham United’s bid to keep apace was derailed by a stunning 4-1 away win for

Chipstead. Chris Boulter, Spencer Cripps and Tom Collins’ double gave them all three points.

There was also a 4-1

win for Barking against Hertford Town – with the hosts responding immediately after going a goal down within 60 seconds.

Bracknell Town are up to 11th following a 2-0

home win over Northwood while Marlow remain 14th despite a 3-1 win

at Chalfont St Peter.

The day’s other game

saw Chertsey Town and Bedfont Sports draw 3-3. Sittingbourne had to wait 43 minutes for their first goal but made up for lost time in sensational style with a 7-0 South East

romp of Ramsgate.

The hosts have lost more than they’ve won this season but rounded off the year with a sumptuous performance, kick-started when John Caney-Bryan opened the scoring before the break.

The same man made it 2-0 just after the break and from there Sittingbourne ran riot, with Christopher Barnard joining his teammate in scoring a double.

Elsewhere, spoils were shared in the derby as

Haywards Heath drew 2-2 with Whitehawk.

All the action came in the second half with Ahmed Abdulla opening the scoring for Hawk when turning in a driven cross.

Rywan Saunders slid in to level for Heath but visiting captain Henry Mugridge steered home to put his side back ahead. It wasn’t to last, however, Callum Saunders firing home from a narrow angle.

There was also a stalemate between

Guernsey and Whyteleafe,

with the home side drawing a blank for the fourth consecutive game.

Isthmian North saw a mixed bag of results with play-off incumbents Great Wakering Rovers and Coggeshall Town remaining locked on 28 points following their 0-0 draw.

None of the four teams below them were in action but Dereham Town couldn’t close the gap after a 1-0 defeat at Soham

Town Rangers thanks to Alfie Connors’ goal.

Canvey Island also suffered defeat as they went down 3-0 to mid-table rivals Hullbridge Sports, for whom Liam Nash scored twice.

Felixstowe & Walton United leapfrogged Basildon United following their 2-0 victory over their visitors, while Brentwood’s home clash with Tilbury was postponed due to the weather.
