FERRY ARE ADRIFT OF SWANSEA STUDENTS

- By Carl Field

SWANSEA University are back on top of JD Cymru South after seeing off Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-0 in the big game at Sketty Lane.

The visitors were top of the pile at Christmas but second half goals from Marley Bishop-Wisdom and Will Toms saw them leapfrogged by the students.

Ferry, now drop to third, and one point clear of Haverfordwest County – who thumped an out of sorts Llanelli Town 4-1.

Curtis Rees, Kieran Howard and Ben Fawcett all found the net for the Bluebirds with Zac Brown’s own goal compounding the visitors’ misery. Lee Bevan replied for them.

STM Sports, in fourth, are now nine points back after they had to settle for a point following a 1-1 draw at winless bottom side Caerau Ely. Hywel Davies’ equaliser cancelled out Marcus Jones’ first half opener for STM.

Cwmamman United and Taffs Well are the other sides in the bottom three along with Ely.

Ammanford got the better of Cwmamman 3-1 thanks to second half goals from Craig Frater, Gavin Jones and Matthew Fisher. Chris Allen replied for the visitors.

Taffs Well, having taken the lead through Jordan Carey seven minutes before the break, slipped to a 2-1 home loss against Llantwit Major through second half efforts from Kyran Gardner and Jon Fletcher.

It’s as you were in JD Cymru North with the top three sides all winning. Danny Davies’ seventh minute goal was enough for table toppers Prestatyn Town as they beat Rhyl 1-0 at Bastion Gardens to remain seven points clear. Nearest challengers Flint Town United got the better of

Buckley Town 3-0 thanks to a goal in each half from Mark Cadwallader – the first from the penalty spot – and a Richie Foulkes effort just before the break.

Third-placed Colwyn Bay came from behind at half time to secure a 3-2 win at Llandudno.

Sion Edwards put Bay in front but they trailed thanks to goals from Danny Hughes and Alfons Fosu-Mensah. Mitchell Bryant then levelled matters on 65 minutes before Joe Chaplin netted the winner six minutes later.

The JD Cymru Premier action resumes tomorrow night in a reverse of the Boxing Day fixtures.

The New Saints, bidding to win the title for a ninth straight season, are a point clear of

Connah’s Quay Nomads and a win over Cefn Druids at Park Hall will see them lead the way heading into the new year.

Greg Draper’s second half hattrick helped the champions win 5-0 at Druids on Boxing Day.

However, any slip-ups from Scott Ruscoe’s side could allow the Nomads to take advantage as they head to Airbus UK Broughton. Bala Town are two points further back in third spot as they gear up to welcome Caernarfon Town to Maes Tegid.
