DARTS HIT THE TREBLE

- By Dan English

DARTFORD stretched their winning run to five games with a convincing win over Oxford City at Princes Park, though the game was marred by a serious injury to the visitors’ Finn Tapp.

Both sides struggled to settle during a scrappy opening to proceedings, and the visitors lost Tapp following a collision that saw the defender stretchered off following a 14-minute stoppage.

Queen fired over on 33 minutes after taking down goalkeeper Alhaji Sesay’s clearance with aplomb in the game’s first chance.

The game sparked on 40 minutes when a scramble from a corner saw the Darts have four successive efforts thwarted as they laid siege to Oxford’s goal.

Dartford were awarded a penalty after 45 minutes when McQueen was brought down by Joe Oastler, and the striker duly dispatched to put the hosts ahead.

Darts’ Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong then netted in first-half injury time to round off a scintillating counter-attack move from the home side, firing a Luke Wanadio cross into the top corner.

Oxford sharpened up and began the second half brightly, controlling the ball and pressing high but failed to create any meaningful chances.

Dartford’s third came with 58 minutes on the clock when Wanadio’s effort rocketed in off the inside of the far post.

Stefan Brown almost netted a consolation on 85 minutes but dragged his effort wide as the Darts cruised to the win.
