HARRISON HITS 400 AS TNS STAY TOP

- By Carl Field

THE NEW SAINTS stay a point clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier after second-half goals from Jon Routledge and Greg Draper in a 2-0 win at Newtown.

Routledge coolly side-footed home to break the deadlock on 55 minutes after Ryan Brobbel’s ball found him in space in the box.

And Brobbel’s reverse pass released Draper who lashed home past David Jones on 64 minutes.

Club captain and goalkeeper Paul Harrison kept a clean sheet on his 400th league start for TNS.

He is only the second keeper to achieve the 400 milestone after record holder Andy Mulliner.

“I wouldn’t have seen that coming after my first game, 12 years ago now,” said Harrison.

“It’s a nice achievement and hopefully I’ll get many more.”

Connah’s Quay Nomads remain on the champions’ coattails but left it late to beat Barry Town

United 2-0.

With the game heading for a goalless draw, the unfortunate Curtis Watkins put through his own net in the 90th minute before Declan Poole added a second in stoppage-time to make sure.

There was also late drama at Cyncoed where Will Evans’ added-time goal snatched a 1-0 win for

Cardiff Met over Bala Town. Caernarfon Town have qualified for the top six ahead of the split, despite crashing 3-0 at home to Aberystwyth Town.

Two second half Marc Williams efforts added to an Aled Williams own goal in the first period for Aber.

But the Cofis are assured of a place in the Championship Conference after Cefn Druids’ 3-2 home defeat by Penybont.

Goals from Curtis Jemmett-Hutson, Daniel Griffiths and Kane Owen ended a seven-game winless streak for Penybont.

Michael Pritchard, from the penalty spot, and James Davies were on the scoresheet for the Druids, who will battle it out with Newtown and Cardiff Met for sixth spot in the final round of phase one fixtures next Saturday.

And in the battle of the bottom two, Carmarthen Town surrendered a two-goal lead and had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home with

Airbus UK Broughton.

Luke Bowen’s brace put the Old Gold in charge, but they were pegged back by goals from Alex Darlington and Liam Williams for the Wingmakers.

Swansea University remain a point in JD Cymru South despite having to settle for a point at home against Llantwit Major.

Adam Orme put the students ahead on nine minutes but the visitors’ Josh Morgan’s levelled on 57 minutes. Haverfordwest County were

also held 1-1 at Afan Lido.

Prestatyn Town remain on course for a return to the top flight after a 1-0 win over Conwy

Borough maintained their ninepoint advantage in JD Cymru North.

Danny Davies grabbed the only goal of the game on 66 minutes at Bastion Gardens.
