I’LL SEIZE MY BIG CHANCE!
Rowe excited by Oldham switch
DANNY ROWE is delighted to seal his big move to Oldham Athletic – and now wants to prove himself in the Football League.
The League Two club finally secured the striker, having shown interest in the summer, after Rowe requested to be transfer listed by AFC Fylde to force through a move.
The 30-year-old is the National League club’s all-time leading scorer with 182 goals in 281 appearances and scored the winning goal against Leyton Orient in the FA Trophy final at Wembley last term.
Fylde chairman David Haythornthwaite told The NLP last week the club had rejected a “derisory offer” from an unnamed League Two side, but now Oldham have forked out an undisclosed fee for the want-away forward. “Danny has been an amazing servant for the club and helped us get where we are today and for that we will forever be in his debt,” Haythornthwaite said in a club statement.
“It’s common knowledge I didn’t want him to go and nor did we need to sell him.
Challenge
“However, after discussing it with Jim Bentley, we agreed it would be unfair to deny him the opportunity to ply his trade at a higher level.
“We wish him every success at his new club.”
Rowe ends his five-year stay at Fylde as a club and goalscoring legend having won the last two National League Player of the Season awards – and now wants to create new history with the Lactics.
“It’s been going on for a quite a bit to be honest now, so I’m just very happy to get here and play in the Football League which is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” Rowe said. “With knowing I’ve been wanted by the club for a while it was still a big decision for me to make.
“Going into a new club and going up a level it’s a challenge for myself as well.
“I wouldn’t say it’s properly sunk in yet, I wasn’t sure if it would get done this quickly but it is has which I’m grateful for and like I said, it’s a challenge for myself personally to step up a level and prove myself.
“It really is a massive chance for me.”
