TWO FOR SWAN AS CITY SOAR
Forest striker in fine form
TRURO CITY manager Paul Wotton was thrilled with his side’s performance as they returned to the summit of the Southern League Premier South with a convincing away victory over Swindon Supermarine at the Webbswood Stadium.
Goals either side of half-time from on-loan Nottingham Forest striker Will Swan gave City a two-goal lead before Ryan Campbell pulled one back in stunning fashion.
There was to be no comeback for the hosts though as Truro top scorer Tyler Harvey hammered home a penalty to score his 13th goal of the campaign and ensure the White Tigers took all three points.
“I’m really really happy,” Wotton said. “We’ve come here, we’ve worked hard, we’ve scored three goals away from home.
“I thought we were very good, very professional. Swindon are a good team, probably in terms
of organisation and fitness they’re the best team we’ve played so to come here and win is great.”
Having conceded top spot to Chesham last weekend after a 1-0 defeat at Treyew Road, the White Tigers headed to Wiltshire looking to bounce back, facing a Swindon Supermarine side on an 11-game unbeaten run.
It was a slow start to the encounter but Truro had the first meaningful attempt as Will Dean saw a half-volley pushed away by Martin Horsell. Connor McDonagh then came close for the hosts as he dribbled past Harlain Mbayo and Jamie Richards before drilling his shot against the near post.
That missed chance came back to haunt Swindon as Swan slotted past Horsell after a slip from the keeper.
It took the striker just seven minutes in the second half to get his and Truro’s second when he chased down a long ball and curled a shot into the far bottom corner to give Wotton’s side daylight.
Completely against the run of play Swindon were able to pull one back when, after a foul by Mbayo, the referee let play on and the Truro backline switched off, Campbell smashing home into the top corner.
Late on, Ed Palmer was pulled down in the area and Harvey did the rest from the spot to wrap up a big three points.
