MILLERS PUSH ON THANKS TO BLAKE

- By Stuart James

CARLTON Town continued their press for the play-off positions as they ran out comfortable winners with a 3-0 victory at mid-table Sheffield FC.

The visitors took the lead on 18 minutes when Tyler Blake twisted his way out of a mess of players in the area and stabbed the ball through a group of Sheffield defenders and into the back of the net.

One minute before the interval, Carlton doubled their lead when a free-kick from the halfway line was met by a series of headers before Blake looped his over the keeper.

Sheffield went closest in the opening moments of the second half when Ash Grayson fired over from close-range with a diving header.

Jordan Chapell registered Sheffield’s first shot on target with a fine drive from distance only for Jack Steggles to produce a finger-tip save.

Ten minutes from time Carlton wrapped things up when the referee penalised Sheffield for a clumsy trip on Blake in the area.

Skipper Tom Madison slammed the penalty home to make it 3-0 and Carlton sit one point outside the play-off places.

Loughborough Dynamo edged past Frickley

Athletic by a single goal in a game where two red cards were shown.

Tyler Williams was given a straight red card just four minutes in for Frickley and the first real chance came for the hosts as Charlie Young shot from the edge of the box only to be denied by Thomas Jackson.

Frickley had a shot of their own when Jonathon Margetts found himself in a great position to score but was stopped by Jason Alexander.

The home side continued to be frustrated in the second half, but Loughborough went ahead through the penalty spot when Curtis Burrows slotted home.

Loughborough’s Luke

Thorogood was dismissed with just under ten minutes to go but Dynamo held on for the crucial three points.

Cleethorpes Town kept their promotion push up with a 2-1 victory away at

Glossop North End.

The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when Curtis Bateson reacted quickly from a throw-in to score from eight yards but Braulio Maeico levelled for Glossop after his mazy solo run.

However, just before the break Oli Donald netted the winner when he swivelled around the penalty spot with a sensational finish, as Cleethorpes remain third in the table with Glossop in 11th position. There was a rout at the Greenfields Sports Ground

as Sutton Coldfield Town

scored six goals against

Market Drayton Town.

Ryan Moore opened the scoring in the third minute hooking the ball into the corner and he added another to his tally when he netted with 25 minutes on the clock after Market Drayton failed to clear.

Sutton’s third came via Edwin Ahenkorah, just before the break, who converted a penalty low into the corner.

In the second half, Desean Martin added a fourth smashing the ball into the back of the net before Reece Gibson and Ben Usher-Shipway scored two goals in the last five minutes to seal it.

Elsewhere, a goal in each half for Ilkeston

Town ensured they recorded a 2-0 victory over

Wisbech Town and now sit five points outside the play-off places.

Mason Lee gave Ilkeston the lead in the 17th minute while Kole Lambert sealed the result when he slotted the ball home with ten minutes remaining.
