CHARLES ON THE CHARGE TO

- By Harry Gray

WHITEHAWK produced a stunning late comeback as they scored twice in stoppage-time to rescue a 2-2 home draw with

Faversham Town in the Isthmian League South East.

The hosts would have fancied their chances of taking all three points from the encounter against a side flirting with the drop zone.

They were caught cold, though, and found themselves trailing 2-0 with just 25 minutes on the clock thanks to goals from Stefan Wright and Joshua Dorling.

From then on it was a fight to save something from the game for Hawk and they eventually got back into the match thanks to Duane Ofori-Acheampong’s 90th-minute effort.

It then fell to Charles Banya to seal a share of the spoils as he produced a stunning 35-yard run and finish.

Two goals in the last eight minutes saw East Grinstead

Town suffer a 3-2 defeat to relegation rivals Ramsgate.

The league’s bottom side looked to be on their way to a much-needed victory after first-half goals from Gil Carvalho and Didi Castano had cancelled out Tyrel Mitford’s 12th-minute opener.

However, a foul in the 82nd minute allowed Mitford to level the scores from the spot and Ramsgate now had their sights set on all three points.

They completed the turnaround in the final minute when Ashley Miller found the net to secure a win which leaves Town in a difficult position at the foot of the table.

They are eight points adrift of Ramsgate, albeit having played a game less than their closest rivals.

Whyteleafe maintained their place in the play-off spots with a narrow 1-0 victory at

Sittingbourne which leaves them fourth in the table.

They were made to battle until the very last moments of the game and finally broke their resilient hosts with a minute to spare.

Ryan Gondoh was the man to grab the precious winning strike – sending Sittingbourne down to 14th in the table.

Meanwhile, Herne Bay kept pace in the play-off chase as they beat Chichester City 2-0 to ensure they sit level on 36 points with Whyteleafe.

Goals in either half from Anthony Edgar and Ryan Cooper were enough to give Bay the three points.

James Dyer’s brace was the highlight of a routine victory for Phoenix Sports as they made simple work of a 3-0 success over Burgess Hill Town.

The home side had no response to Sports’ flying start as Lauris Chin opened the scoring and Dyer’s first made it 2-0 inside 20 minutes.

Dyer added his second and Phoenix’s third as they sealed a win which leaves them twopoints shy of the play-offs.

Hythe Town

also enjoyed a 3-0 victory and picked up all three points on their travels against Haywards Heath Town.

Thomas Murphy scored in the 28th minute and

Hythe held their advantage until efforts from Frannie Collin and Jarred Trespaderne made the points safe late in the second period.

Whitstable

Town recorded a routine win over Three Bridges as they eased to a comfortable 3-1 victory.

John Ufuah’s early strike gave Town the perfect start before Aaron

Millbank scored twice in the second period to put his side 3-0 up.

Curtis Gayler scored for the home side, but it proved to be little more than a consolation as Town saw the match out with relative comfort.

Robbie Legg’s strike with 11 minutes remaining to go was the difference as Guernsey claimed a 1-0 win over fellow mid-table dwellers VCD Athletic.

The result saw Guernsey leapfrog Athletic in the table and they now sit 12th after 22 games this season.
