FIVE-STAR LANDERS STUNS THE EAGLES

- By Geoff Berkeley

THERE was a nine-goal thriller at The Eyrie as Henry Landers scored five to inspire North Leigh to a 5-4 victory at Bedford

Town in the Southern League Central Division.

The first goal came inside the opening four minutes when Dan Walker’s sweet left-footed strike gave Bedford the lead.

But North Leigh quickly turned the match in their favour following Landers’ nine-minute hat-trick to put the visitors 3-1 in front.

Chances came and went for Bedford in the first half before Walker bagged his second on 48 minutes.

All the momentum was with the home side as ex-Luton Town striker Connor Tomlinson made it 3-3 on the hour.

Connor Calcutt then edged Bedford in front on 74 minutes only for Landers to grab his fourth moments later.

It was turning into the Landers show and he rounded off a stunning afternoon by scoring his fifth from the spot with six minutes to go.

AFC Dunstable

are now seven points behind the play-off places after a 3-1 victory at Bedworth

United.

Dunstable fell behind when Dan Preston found Alex Troke, who volleyed past Dan Green.

Preston almost got Bedworth’s second when his free-kick evaded everyone and went narrowly wide.

But this was a rare chance as Bedford found it difficult to get out of their own half with Dunstable piling on the pressure.

Dan Crane palmed away Tony Burnett’s strike before saving a shot from Nathan Frater who hit the angle of the crossbar with the follow-up.

But Dunstable’s persistence paid off just before the interval when the ball fell to Ryan Frater who fired home to level the scores.

Bedford had Crane to thank as he saved Burnett’s volley before denying Nick Elliot.

But Taylor Rhiney put Dunstable in front on 60 minutes before Bernard Christie secured all three points in stoppage-time.

Biggleswade won their second match in a week with a 2-1 triumph against visitors Kidlington.

The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes thanks to a clinical finish from Ryan Inskip after being put through by Lee Northfield.

Kidlington could have drawn level moments before the break only for Tyler Josephs to pull off a fine point-blank save.

Biggleswade remained on top in the second half and settled the contest when Tom Coles netted in the first minute of injury-time.

Tobias London did manage to pull one back for Kidlington, but it was too little, too late.

Elsewhere,

Daventry Town

stormed to a 3-0 victory over Barton Rovers with all the goals coming in the final 30 minutes.

Keeper Niall Cooper gave Barton hope in the opening period as he thwarted Adam Creaney before producing an excellent save to stop Adam Confue’s header.

Jack Bowen opened the scoring with a bullet header on 61 minutes before Cooper came to the rescue to deny Creaney once again.

Jarvis Wilson marked his debut with a goal before a long, cross-field delivery found Taylor Orosz who cut inside before beating Cooper.

St Neots Town boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Didcot Town.

The match-winning goal came on the stroke of halftime when Tommy Boxer smashed home after an uneventful first half.

Didcot plugged away but failed to breach St Neots’ defence.
