JOSHUA SUITS MARINE LIFE!

- By Matt Badcock

JOSHUA SOLOMON-DAVIES says Marine are giving him the stage in which to shine.

Scouts are flocking to watch the St Lucia international who believes the BetVictor NPL North West promotion hopefuls are helping him to have his best season yet.

Already, his performances have landed the 20-year-old two player of the month awards for the Mariners as he becomes a big part of Neil Young’s high-flying side.

A right-back, Solomon-Davies has been determined to have an impact on the game at the other end of the pitch too and he has eight assists and two goals to his name. He says a good pre-season has been the foundation for some impressive outings for the attacking full-back.

“I’m always up and down as much as I can – that’s my game,” Solomon-Davies told The NLP.

“I’ve been able to get into my rhythm after a good pre-season and I’ve been able to show everyone what I’ve got.

Game time

“The manager knows I can defend but he also knows how attacking I am so it gives me confidence that he wants us to come down my side.

“That helps me know just how good I can be.”

Solomon-Davies came through the youth ranks at Tranmere Rovers and made his debut in the National League.

But he turned down a professional contract at Prenton Park and made a conscious decision to move elsewhere to get regular game time.

Profile

“I knew I was rated because they offered me a deal but because they were trying to go up every season I was there, they weren’t really going to play youngsters,” he said. “So I thought it doesn’t matter where I start off, I need to go and play men’s football.

“When you are younger and playing as many matches as you can, no matter what level it is, people are going to look and see how many games you’ve played.

“You need to be real with yourself. The profile of being a ‘professional footballer’ doesn’t mean anything if you’re not playing games. I needed to get out there and I’m enjoying it.

“It was always a risk because you don’t want to get stuck. But it’s all about backing myself.

“It’s about proving it to myself and everyone else that I can play higher.”
