DOUBLE TROUBLE AS SLEW SPARKLES

- By Bradley West

JOROME Slew was at the double as Maldon &

Tiptree hammered sorry Felixstowe & Walton

United 6-2 in the Isthmian North Division.

The Jammers remain hot on the heels of leading duo Heybridge Swifts and Aveley with games in hand on their rivals after a dominant showing at Wallace Binder Ground.

Slew scored in both halves while goals from Ryan Charles, Charlee Hughes, Hamza Kaid and a Samuel Nunn own goal ensured a comfortable win despite efforts from Oliver Canfer and George Clarke offering a mini-revival for the visitors.

From the early stages, Maldon were dominant and Slew got the scoring underway in the sixth minute when he beat Felixstowe goalkeeper Charlie Beckwith.

Not long later and it was two when Nunn put the ball into his own net.

The away side got a lifeline shortly after the break when Canfer found the net but within 60 seconds Charles made the advantage two once more.

Three minutes later, Slew had his second of the match as it appeared to seal the victory for Maldon but Clarke’s 64th minute effort gave the visitors a lifeline.

Once again though, Maldon scored within a minute of Felixstowe through Hughes and then Kaid rounded off proceedings at the death to confirm the win. Meanwhile, Coggeshall

Town are just outside the play-off places now after a late Nnamdi Nwachuku goal sealed a 2-1 comeback victory in a heated affair which featured three cards over strugglers Cambridge City.

It had looked for a long while like the visitors would be securing just their eighth win of the season, after Jarid Robson scored in the ninth minute.

Robson met Seb Simpson’s free kick with a brilliant header to beat Ashlee

Jones in the Coggeshall net.

However, things took a turn for the worse for the away side when their keeper Dan George was sent off in the 23rd minute.

After Coggeshall played a long ball over into the far corner, George raced out to meet it but made a rash challenge and subsequently received his marching orders.

Despite this, Cambridge took their lead into the break through resolute defending and were not far away from doubling it when they hit the post.

And they maintained this dogged style in the second 45 minutes, but their brave resistance was finally broken by Joshua Pollard 12 minutes from time. A short corner caught Cambridge napping and Pollard took advantage, before further drama ended the match.

In the tenth minute of injury time and, after countless waves of attacks, Coggeshall finally found their winner when Nwachuku found the net – sparking a crazy finish which saw both Jones and Ryan Ingrey also sent off. Elsewhere, Heybridge

Swifts scored two second half goals to best Soham

Town Rangers 2-0 at Julius Martin Lane.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes the visitors eventually broke the deadlock when Emmanuel Osei-Owusu found the net in the 60th minute.

And the advantage was doubled when Alex Teniola scored from the penalty spot just over 15 minutes from time.

There was victory elsewhere too for Great Wakering Rovers as their push for the play-offs gathered steam with a 1-0 win over Witham Town at The Simarco Stadium.

It took until the 52nd minute for the only goal of the game to come as Jake Gordon did the business.
