TIGERS CHIEFS DESERVE CREDIT, SAYS DAY

- By Jon Couch

FARNBOROUGH boss Spencer Day has heaped praise on officials at Truro City for their response to claims of “abusive and discriminatory language” during their BetVictor Southern Premier South clash weekend.

A handful of youths were pointed out for their over-zealous behaviour during the White Tigers’ 2-1 win which kept them top of the table.

Within minutes of the final whistle, Truro City issued a club statement on their Twitter page condemning the rowdy behaviour and vowing to launch a formal internal investigation – all this despite the fact that no official complaint had been lodged by Farnborough’s players or travelling supporters.

The statement read: “Officials at Truro City have been made aware of reports of abusive and discriminatory language targeted at visiting players at today’s Premier Southern South fixture against Farnborough.

“The club is making it clear that it has a zero tolerance approach to abuse and discriminatory language of any kind and will be launching an internal investigation.”

Day was quick to point out there was no suggestion of racism and says the incident should be turned into a positive given the response of Truro officials.

“The staff, from the manager all the way down to the groundstaff were nothing but superb,” Day told The NLP. “They were a credit to Non-League football.

“Was it banter…yes, did it go too far…yes, but it was not racial, there were no complaints made.

“Truro, to their huge credit, decided that they weren’t accepting that and issued a statement. That deserves applause.

“It was a disappointing end to a enjoyable game where we competed with the leaders. The vast majority of supporters gave both teams a massive standing ovation at the end and that is what we will take away with us.”
