TONY’S IN A FIELD OF DREAMS
TONY Reid is a hard man to please – even his high-flying Westfield side “can do better” in his eyes!
The Field are in the promotion mix again after reaching the BetVictor Isthmian League South Central play-offs in their first season at Step 4.
They were narrowly beaten in the semi-finals but that disappointment has spurred the ambitious Reid and his team on.
“Any club with ambition or manager with ambition always wants to progress,” he told The NLP.
“I’ve got a good philosophy on how football should be played and it’s working.
“I haven’t really changed much from last season, just one or two positions I felt I could make stronger. I think the squad is better than last year.
“I have to say better because we didn’t have a goalscorer last year and we’ve got that this year in Max Blackmore.
“That was part of the jigsaw that was acquired. I think the position we’re in it helps attract players and getting better players which is good.
Reid guided the Woking-based side to promotion from the Combined Counties League and is desperate for more success.
“It’s still a work in progress, there’s still a lot of things we can improve on and can do,” he added. “Our aim wasn’t to be top of the table, I just wanted to be amongst but I’ll take any position in the top three right now.
“Looking at all the challenges I had to face, not having a striker, not having a facility to train on, our budget was absolutely poor, you take them and I did pretty well. We did well to get where we got to.
“We’re a small club, we don’t get a lot of fans through the door but we’ve heard a lot of people coming through complimenting the way we play. We’re ready to go up should it happen.”
