COLEMEN CONDEMN BASEMENT BOYS

- By Rachel Steinberg

LIAM Molesworth helped himself to a hat-trick as Coleshill Town piled misery on bottom side Wantage Town with a 7-1

drubbing.

Molesworth only needed 13 minutes to net his first and that opened the floodgates in a dominant Coleshill display that saw them snap a four-game losing streak in style.

Zayn Hakeem’s first Colemen goal doubled his side’s lead and George Washbourne added to the tally five minutes later.

John Freeman narrowed the deficit just after the half-hour mark but from there it was all Coleshill as Lewis Rankin got in on the goalscoring action in the 40th minute.

Wantage managed to hold them off until late into the second half when Coleshill struck three times in six minutes with Sandhu the first to strike before Molesworth netted his second four minutes later to make it 6-1.

But Molesworth wasn’t finished and tapped in a third to complete his hat-trick and condemn the visitors to a sixth straight league reverse.

Fellow strugglers

Kempston Rovers were involved in a dramatic climax as North Leigh sealed a 2-1 home win after a long wait for the winner to be awarded.

A solid defensive display from both sides left the game goalless over an hour in and the Millers finally broke the deadlock when defender Andy Gunn capitalised on an Aaron Woodley cross to fire home.

But North Leigh conceded a soft penalty giving Kempston the opportunity to equalise and Andrew Phillips made no mistake from the spot to tie the game in the 79th minute.

With five minutes left, Henry Landers’ looping shot looked destined to be saved easily but pressure from Woodley caused their keeper to fall back into his own net.

After a long delay the referee ruled in favour of

North Leigh and the goal proved the winner.

North Leigh’s excellent home record continues and the late show was their fourth successive triumph on home soil, helping them climb to 11th place.

Kempston are now without a league win since late November, albeit 14 points clear of relegation.

Barton Rovers ended a run of four games without a win with a straightforward 3-0 home win over St

Neots Town.

The first half was a frenetic end-to-end affair, though ultimately without many real opportunities for either side.

But Lewis Thomas’ lovely header just a minute into the second half put Rovers in front and with just two minutes to go in normal time Keanu Williams netted to settle the matter.

Five minutes of stoppage time was enough for Vic Osobu to add to the Rovers’ lead, keeping his composure to fire home five minutes into injury time.

Barton climbed to tenth with the victory, while St Neots remain in the doldrums and now on a concerning run of four straight defeats.

Sonny French helped rescue a point for Aylesbury as they emerged from Kidlington with a creditable 1-1 draw.

Both teams had chances in the first half but the scoreboard still read 0-0 after 45 minutes.

Kidlington winger Connor Mattimore finally broke through the deadlock in the 49th minute to put his side ahead.

Sonny French tied it all up after fine touches from Ty Deacon and Ken Feyi and that proved enough to preserve a point.

With Yaxley, Bedworth and Biggleswade all winning, Aylesbury now only have a six-point buffer to the play-off chasing pack.
