WILDE IS RAMPANT AGAIN FOR NOMADS

- By Carl Field

MIKE WILDE, fresh from his brace to help Connah’s Quay

Nomads lift the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend, needed only three minutes to grab the only goal of the game at Jenner Park.

He then rattled the crossbar before Barry were reduced to ten men before the break when Kayne McLaggon was dismissed for a challenge on Declan Poole. Former Wales international David Cotterill came off the bench in the second half for his Barry debut, but the visitors held on to secure all three points.

It is the perfect start to phase two for the Nomads, especially after TNS were defeated 2-1 by

Newtown at Park Hall. First-half goals from Alex Fletcher and Lifumpa Mwandwe secured a memorable win for the Robins.

The latter netted on 21 minutes after Adrian Cieslewicz had cancelled out Fletcher’s opener.

The other game in the Championship Conference resulted in a 2-1 win for Bala at Caernarfon.

Chris Venables, on his 450th league appearance, once again proved to be the difference with a second-half double.

Noah Edwards had given Caernarfon the lead in their first match under new manager Huw Griffiths – who took over at the Oval following his departure from Cefn Druids.

In the Play-Off Conference,

Carmarthen Town are off the bottom after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Penybont.

Lewis Harling gave the hosts the advantage but second-half efforts from Elliot Scotcher and Kalilo Djalo Embalo meant it was the Old Gold who won.

Elsewhere a brace from Jamie Reed and one for James Davies fired the Druids to a 3-2 victory at Airbus. Joe Palmer and Kristian Platt netted for the Wingmakers who are now bottom and two points behind both Penybont and Carmarthen.

Druids are level on 34 points with Cardiff Met – with both of those sides aiming to bag themselves the final end of season play-off spot for the Europa League places.

The students, who qualified for Europe last season despite initially missing out on the top six, will be looking to repeat the trick.

They began phase two by beating Aberystwyth Town 3-1 with Eliot Evans at the double.

Swansea University remain a point clear of Haverfordwest

County in JD Cymru South – but needed a last-gasp leveller from Adam Orme to snatch a 1-1 draw against Pontypridd Town.

Haverfordwest were unable to reclaim top spot after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by relegation-battling Cwmbran Celtic.

The Bluebirds led twice through Ben Fawcett but they were pegged back by Tom Meechan and then Rakesh Patel from the penalty spot.

JD Cymru North leaders

Prestatyn Town had to settle for a point at home against relegation battling Porthmadog, with that game also finishing 2-2.
