FOWLER FEELS SO RAD-ICAL TO SEAL RETURN
LEE FOWLER says he feels a connection with Radcliffe after the former Wrexham and Fleetwood midfielder was unveiled as their new boss last night.
The 36-year-old has taken the reins at the BetVictor Northern Premier League Premier Division club following the departure of Garry Vaughan because of family commitments.
Vaughan, who took over from Jon Macken and Frank Sinclair, was only in the hot-seat for two weeks.
Fowler, the NLP columnist who had a brief spell in charge of Bradford Park Avenue alongside Marcus Law earlier this campaign, took Ilkeston to the Midland League title last season in his first management job.
As a player, Fowler won promotions with Huddersfield Town and played an important part in Fleetwood’s Conference title win in 2011-12.
Now he’s aiming to breathe new life into Radcliffe and get them climbing the table.
He told The NLP: “I’m happy to be back in. I missed the boat with a Football League job but realistically it was probably a league too far at this moment in time. It made me really focus on what I wanted and what level I wanted to be at for my progression.
“As soon as I met the owners and (director of football) Karl Marginson – Frank Sinclair gave me a good recommendation – and I met the players, I just felt good about it. I felt I had a really connection with the club.
“I’m not naïve. Jon and Frank deserve massive credit and both will go on to good things.
“Perhaps it went stale towards the end and the interim manager had key players go, but for me I am going to approach it one game at a time.
“I know what I do is good within the spirit of the team. I’m looking to bring in a good number two and some more staff.
“It’s good to be back and around football, which I love.”
