PRESSURE ON TOP TWO AS TURBINES UP THE POWER!

- By Chris Philpotts

PETERBOROUGH SPORTS kept the pressure up on the top two as boss Jimmy Dean paid tribute to their hosts for getting the game on in the face of Storm Dennis.

The Turbines ran out 3-0 winners and for Dean that was down to the Boro – who he accepts were unlucky to lose by a three-goal margin.

“Listen, before anything else is said, we need to talk about Nuneaton,” Dean said. “We are in good nick right now, so many teams would have cried this game off or taken the easy way out.

“Nuneaton, to their credit, worked so, so hard, to get it on and they deserve a lot of praise for that.

“They played well and I think the 3-0 scoreline does not tell the story of the game. For me, it was just that we took our chances when they came along.”

The first half was more of a battle against the fierce winds and driving rain than each other as neither side could get a foothold in the encounter. Despite the conditions, there was some football played before the break – and some nice stuff too from Boro.

They had a couple of half chances through Devon Kelly-Evans and Luke Benbow but neither were taken, misses they regretted when the visitors took the lead in the 30th minute.

The goal came from a deep cross into the box from Dion Sembie-Ferris, Josh Moreman managing to get his head on the ball to score before it sailed out of play.

It was the only clear cut chance of the half and title-chasing Peterborough

made it count. And they did it again at the start of the second half, doubling their lead less than five minutes after the restart.

The goal was once again scored by Moreman but he had to work harder for his second, waltzing into the Boro box before curling home an effort that Tony Breeden had no chance to stop.

Nuneaton had their chances to cut the deficit after that, Richardo Calder had a great one but rushed his shot when played through on goal, something Nuneaton were made to pay for when their guests wrapped up the win with just seconds remaining.

Cameron Johnson scored it with a fine finish from outside the box as Peterborough kept up the pace on Tamworth at the top of the league.

Boro boss Jimmy Ginnelly said: “Fair play to Peterborough, they came here and got the win. We took a chance when it came to putting the work in to get it on and it backfired but this is football and we always want to play if we can.”
