BAY MADE TO PAY PENALTY
HERNE BAY failed to take advantage of the postponements in the BetVictor Isthmian South East Division, going down 1-0 at home to
VCD Athletic.
The decisive moment came with just over 15 minutes to play, as the visitors were awarded a penalty, with Charlie McDonald converting.
Hythe Town gained ground on the play-off pack, after Danny Walder’s freakish winner saw them overcome
Guernsey 2-1.
The hosts took the lead just before half-time as Charlie Webster drove home at the far post from a corner, but the lead lasted three minutes as Ross Allen scored a penalty after a handball by Darren Oldaker. Walder then netted the winner directly from a corner, as he profited from the blustery conditions.
Ashford United top the table on goal difference after a 1-1 draw with Haywards
Heath Town. Trevor McCreadie opened the scoring for the visitors, before
Matthew Bourne popped up with his second goal this season to see the game end level.
In the Isthmian League North, AFC Sudbury and
Aveley played out a 3-3 draw, with Freddie King rescuing a point for the hosts.
A quickfire double from Alexander Akrofi and George Sykes put the visitors two goals ahead, before Billy Holland halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time.
Baris Altintop made it two
apiece early in the second period, before Akrofi scored his second to put the Millers back ahead, but late pressure from the Suds eventually told as King netted to see the points shared.
Brentwood Town eased their relegation fears with a comfortable 2-0 victory over
Witham Town, Adam Topley and Alan Fleming scoring to leave the Blues seven points above the drop zone.
Finally in the Isthmian League South Central, it was raining goals at Capershotts as Waltham Abbey beat
Chalfont St Peter 7-3. Rob Clark opened the scoring for the hosts, before Leonne McKenzie, Louis Bowen, Nathan Twum Koranteng and Billy Holland made it five before half-time.
Shiloh Remy added a sixth from the spot after the break before Harry Lodovica got the visitors on the scoresheet. Luke Illsley got the Saints’ second, before Aron Gordon and Lodovica added another for either side.
